Global investors are still revelling in the US midterms, which have left stock markets across the world rallying.

The FTSE 100 looks poised to extend yesterdays 1.8 per cent gain this morning as the price of oil retreats to a two-month loww.

Brent crude was trading below $94 per barrel on Thursday, extending a decline of nearly nine per cent, after the Democratic sweep in the midterms ramped up expectations that President Donald Trump could face growing pressure to bring the war with Iran to an end.

Elsewhere, the UK is bracing for the Bank of England to make its next interest rate decision today. While a hike is expected, investors will be watching for any suggestions from the Bank on how far they are willing to go if inflation is not contained.
